little u – holiday edition 2009

December 16, 2009 by truecolorsevents

Travis and I are truly blessed, we get to live our dreams. Our careers are our passion. On any given weekend you can find us helping couples say their “I do’s.” Throughout the process we get to know our couples very well, and we are honored to be a part of such a significant time in their lives. But the wedding day really is just the beginning!

Here at True Colors Events HQ we have decided to start a new holiday tradition, an annual “little u in review” if you will. This time of year it seems fitting to reflect, as well as look forward, so we’re dedicating this blog post to showcasing the kids & pets of our previous couples. Some of them came with ready-made families, a few kids have shown up exactly 9 months after the honeymoon; we have couples whose families are complete with their four-legged friends, and others with kids on the way. We look forward to watching this annual tradition grow with the little ones who are a part of it.

As my grandma once said, “Anything little is cute” and with that in mind, we bring you our first annual little u – holiday edition.

This newborn with the curious tongue is Harper, son of Catherine & Dennis.

Riley, daughter of Stacey & Brett, is every inch the sprouting sweet flower in this photo.

Here is Katherine & Aron’s 4-legged baby Tucker.  Check back shortly when we post their wedding photos and see the grooms cake that was a full size replica of their bulldog.

Here is Alison & Jack’s curly haired cutie Stella.  (With all that sweetness Alison & Jack couldn’t stop at one…they recently let us know they have another baby girl on the way!)

Speaking of on-the-way, Natalie & Darby may be ringing in the New Year with a bundle of joy.  Here is a great pregnancy shot of our former client and model.

Anika & David’s blond angel Florence is just too cute for words.  Supermodel rocket scientist in the making!

And here we have another adorable Stella (one of our honeymoon babies), daughter of Heide & Gerardo.  It’s ok if you have the impulse to try and reach through the computer screen to pinch her cheeks.

Zinedine isn’t quite a honeymoon baby (January wedding, November birth), but Shaharzad & Bryce were definitely ready to start a family.  Zinedine was recently featured on the blog with a peaceful shot.  Here’s one where he’s a little more expressive being weighed for the first time.  (I’m not always happy when I look at the scale either.)

Abigail is growing up so fast!  Here is Ericka & Jon’s fair-haired beauty looking pretty in pink at the pumpkin patch earlier this year.

Here is the first family photo of Catherine & Darin with sweet newborn Josephine & bespectacled Cameron.

And of course the entry would not be complete without including our little nugget Buster.  (Actually he wouldn’t allow it…we all know about his diva size fits.)  Well, he thinks just because Giselle is on maternity leave he can throw around extra attitude on set.  He wasn’t feeling the holiday themed costume I pulled for his photo shoot and refused to smile with his eyes.

I knew I had to resort to drastic measures, so I informed him the leisure wear he seemed so critical of was actually Versace 2011, and unless he wanted Donatella to give him a piece of her mind he better shape up.  After that we got the perfect shot.

Thanks to all of our couples who participated in the first annual little u – holiday edition.

We wish everyone a truly festive holiday season and happy new year!

Alina & Heather

December 7, 2009 by truecolorsevents

There are some couples who just seem like they were made for each other.  Alina & Heather are one of our fabulous 2009 couples who just balance each other out perfectly.  We had such a wonderful time working with these two incredible women to plan their summer wedding.

The very talented Sarah & Chris of Sarah Rhoads Photographers captured the big day, and here are some of the shots that tell the story of their beautiful event.

Alina is a University of Washington graduate, and as an alumni we had access to Sylvan Grove, a beautiful spot on campus to use for the ceremony.

Heather’s ethereal dress was from Nordstrom, and Alina found her striking seersucker suit at Brooks Brothers.

The wedding color palette was a summery inspired navy blue, lime green, and hot pink.   It was so much fun working with this bold & sassy color combination.

We worked with Lea of Florarama Modern Design to create the festive floral which included lots of dahlias, roses, mums, and even limes.  She even created a floral ring bearer pillow made out of kermit mums.

Alina & Heather walked down the aisle, which was lined with pink & green paper lanterns, together.

After the touching ceremony, everyone traveled to hot spot SODO Park, where Herban Feast provided an incredible dining experience for all of the guests.  For dessert, the ladies wanted their absolute favorite, coconut cake from The Kingfish Cafe.

We selected tone-on-tone striped white table linens and navy & pink napkins from BBJ Linen to create visual interest on the table and further enhance their color palette.  Choosing custom linens is a great way to truly personalize your day, and can can be surprisingly cost effective.

Musical entertainment was provided by the always vivacious DJ Leslie of Seattle Parties.

Abaloria Jewerly Holiday Trunk Show Next Wednesday

December 4, 2009 by truecolorsevents

The incredibly talented Brandy of Abaloria Jewelry is having a fun and festive holiday trunk show party & celebration event in the Majestic Palace Suite of the Hotel Monaco next Wednesday, December 9th, from 4:00 pm to 7:30 pm.

This is a great opportunity to  purchase one-of-a-kind handmade creations by the artist who was voted “Best Bridal Jewerly” by Seattle Bride Magazine.

I had a chance to chat with Brandy and she filled me in on some of the fun details.  She noted that the trunk should would showcase her newest everyday jewelry, chunky big stone necklaces, long silver hoop necklaces, as well as her most popular designs.  She also has earrings (starting at $20!), and bridal sets on sale.

It’s a great chance to sip some bubbly, enjoy some chocolate, and cross some names off of the holiday shopping list.

Feel free to visit the Events section of her website, and you can RSVP to the event, and see more pictures, on the Abaloria Jewelry Facebook Page.

Abaloria Jewelry Holiday Trunk Show

Katie & Josh

November 28, 2009 by truecolorsevents

Katie & Josh are one of our fabulous 2009 couples who were married just over two months ago at The Golf Club at Newcastle.  It was such a pleasure working with this couple and their families who spent quite a bit of time planning not only the wedding, but also the wedding date itself.

See Josh is a huge UW football fan, and it was a bit of a struggle to pick an appropriate date for the wedding given his love of the game.  So considering the Huskies 0 -12 2008 season, it was not widely considered they had much of a  chance against mighty USC in 2009…or at least that was the idea when the date was picked.  And then the 2009 football season came along, and the Huskies started winning.  On the wedding day Josh and his groomsmen were able to watch the start of the nail-biting game in the lounge at the golf club, but later duty called and Josh was off to take pictures.  We updated him on the score throughout the game, and here is his reaction when we told him the Huskies won (16-13)!

It was an overcast and drizzly day at The Golf Club at Newcastle, but Ashley & Angie of One Thousand Words Photography paid close attention to the weather and captured amazing shots indoors and outside when possible.

Josh and his groomsmen wore tuxes from The Tux Shop.  (And no, Josh is not turning his head in a model pose, he’s watching the game on the tv.)

Katie’s breathtaking gown was from Luly Yang, and her beautiful earrings were a one of a king creation from local designer Brandy Thibault of Abaloria Jewelry.

Christiane of Flora Nova Design created the beautiful floral and decor for the wedding and reception.  We kept Katie’s bouquet primarily white, ivory and blush with touches of pink.  The bridesmaids bouquets really played up the colors of the wedding, rich with bold pink, chocolate, ivory, and chartreuse.

The chocolate bridesmaids dresses came from The Bridal Garden.

Right before walking her down the aisle, Katie & her dad had a few moments to themselves.

Katie was born in Mexico, and when she was a little girl her dad told her when she grew up he would get a mariachi band to perform at her wedding.  Of course we needed to make sure he stayed true to his word, so we hired a mariachi band to perform during the cocktail hour.  Katie was so surprised and delighted!

Surprise!

Katie’s Parents

A variety of styles of centerpieces were created to add visual interest and dimension in the room.

Sharon’s Catering & Cakes created the couples tasty wedding cake.

Custom football shaped cookie favors were created by The Famous Northwest Catering Company.

Katie & Josh and their guests danced late into the night as the Michael Benson Band played.

True Colors Events Tabletop Design at Urban Unveiled

November 25, 2009 by truecolorsevents

Design is one of our favorite aspects of weddings and events, and creating our tablescape for our vendor space at Urban Unveiled this year was a true pleasure.  We wanted to do something completely different from the South Beach Chic theme of the event, so we headed west to take on a Pacific Northwest inspired design.  Always wanting to challenge ourselves, we decided to mix it up by giving it a contemporary and enchanted spin.

The inspiration started with our weighty wood & manzanita branch centerpieces that were specially designed for a wedding that took place earlier in the summer.  From there we knew we wanted to include earthy colors such as moss green, chocolate brown, apple green, amber, copper tones & other warm metallics.  We fell in love with this table linen, chair sashes, and 100% linen hemstitch napkins from Choice Linens and knew they would compliment the look perfectly.

We contacted Christiane with Flora Nova Design about creating the floral designs for the tablescape.  We knew that we wanted pomander balls, crystals, and votive candles hanging from the manzanita branches, as well as arrangements on the tables.  With all of the neutral earth tones, we knew we wanted a big punch of color to create a contrast.  Initially we toyed with the idea of orange, but it didn’t seem to quite hit the mark.  When we came to the decision to go with fuchsia with punches of plum & pale pink everything clicked.  We are so delighted with the way it turned out.

Sheryl with Paper Moxie is a stationary visionary.  She worked with us on all of the paper coordinates for the table.  As always, she did an absolutely amazing job of creating beautiful designs that worked perfectly with the styling of the table.  Upon request, she created menus in moss lined boxes.  Sheryl also made lids for the boxes with rocks, leaves & place cards on them – form and function!  My grandma Maryann came to Urban Unveiled for the first time, so we had Sheryl make two of the place settings with my grandparents names on them.  She also created tags for the favors, jars of fig jam, which were inscribed with, “Spread the love…with a little of our favorite fig jam…Maryann & Jack”

Our good friends at Pedersen’s Rentals supplied us with the table, walnut chivari chairs, chargers, china, stemware, and flatware.

Thanks to the incredibly talented Sharlane of Sharlane Chase Photography for taking all of the pictures!

More Urban Unveiled 2009 Pictures

The amazing vendors who participate in Urban Unveiled are what make the show.  They represent the best-of-the-best in the wedding industry, and they pull out all the stops to make the event incredible year after year.  Our Urban Unveiled partner Sharlane of Sharlane Chase Photography took time during the event to snap some detail shots of the vendors spaces in the show and we wanted to share some of our favorite pictures.

Urban Unveiled 2009 Luly Yang Fashion Show

November 22, 2009 by truecolorsevents

One of the highlights of Urban Unveiled is Luly Yang’s dedicated bridal fashion show.  Our dear friend Luly has been a part of Urban Unveiled since it began, and we are so grateful that she is part of the show.  Every year Luly designs a number of dresses specific to the theme of the event.

This year, Urban Unveiled was held less than a week after Luly debuted her newest couture line, The Creation, at her fashion show benefitting one of our favorite organizations (and places to hold weddings), Camp Korey.  It was especially exciting to have the bridal fashion show sprinkled with designs from her brand new inspiring line.  (Just last week I went to Luly Yang with one of our brides and we found a gown from her new collection that is inspiring a couture creation for her wedding next year.  But no details…the groom might be reading the blog!)

Last year, we held the fashion show in Taper Auditorium.  This time, in keeping with the sexy South Beach chic vibe, we brought the runway to the people!  We put a stage in the Grand Lobby and placed lounge furniture around the runway.

Seven Salon styled the models’ hair, while Michael Bride provided their makeup services.  These wonderful partners styled to perfection, just like they have for many of our brides.  Here are just a few shots from the exciting show.

New Urban Unveiled 2009 Pictures

November 19, 2009 by truecolorsevents

Because we have so many great pictures, we are going to dedicate the next few posts to our incredible wedding show, Urban Unveiled.  In this post, we are sharing scenic shots that show off the entire event to highlight  the incredible decor used to transform Benaroya Hall into a hip South Beach Chic party.  With the help of Rented Elegance (and their sexy new white leather serpentine benches), Pedersen’s Rentals, PNTA (for the incredible lighting), Choice Linens, Celeste Cooning (who did the incredible paper art), and a few other tricks, it may have been cold outside but it was one hot party!

Travis and I traveled to Miami in December of 2007, and we were so inspired by the architecture, colors, music and culture…we knew we had found our muse for a future Urban Unveiled.  Setting up an event is always so interesting.  It’s amazing how the smallest changes can make a world of difference.  We adjusted the lighting one shade and it went from looking too much like a pool blue to the perfect tone of aqua.  The overall color scheme was white with coral and aqua accents.  At first we mixed cocktail tables with both coral and aqua linens, but it looked too busy.  So we divided the room in two, color blocking everything in aqua on one side, and everything on coral on the other.  The result was fantastic, and felt more in keeping with a modern art deco vibe.  We couldn’t have been more thrilled with the final outcome.  Every bride and groom should feel as excited to see their vision come to life on their big day!

It was definitely the best and most exciting Urban Unveiled to date, and we are so thankful to all of our partners who helped make it possible.  Even if you didn’t get a chance to go to the show, make sure to check out the website to see all of the great vendors who make up the Urban Unveiled partnership.  They truly are the best in the industry!

Here is the Urban Unveiled team (Jesse, Sharlane, Travis) doing the introductions at the event.  The highlight of the night came later when Sharlane’s boyfriend David got on stage and proposed to her in front of the hundreds of people there…she said yes of course.  Congratulations Sharlane & David!
